The Internet's supply of IP version 4 addresses is nearing exhaustion. The organization responsible for allocating IPv4 networks to Regional Internet Registries (RIRs), IANA, ran out in late January 2011. The RIR that serves the Asia-Pacific region ran out in mid-April. The RIR that serves Europe will likely run out this summer. These events herald the beginning of a long transition to a new version of the Internet Protocol, IPv6. Over time, the number of IPv6-based users on the Internet will increase until the point—years from now—that they make up the majority of the Internet. For the time being, the two protocols will coexist on the Internet, entailing the use of IPv4–IPv6 transition technologies, dual-stack DNS, web and mail servers, and more.
As a vendor of IP Address Management solutions, Infoblox is uniquely positioned to help you through this transition. Infoblox provides appliance-based IPAM products that manage both IPv4 and IPv6 on networks, and that support IPv6 networks with DNS and DHCPv6, as well as new transition technologies such as DNS64. Infoblox offers professional services to help you make sense of IPv6: What needs to be done, when, and in what order. Infoblox's IPv6 Center of Excellence is the coordination point for IPv6-related activities at Infoblox. We maintain these web pages to bring you IPv6 resources such as videos, tools and news to help you learn all about IPv6. Contact us at ipv6coe@infoblox.com.
